Welcome to my blog!

By Caleb Yarbrough

I recently learned that there are around 500 million active blogs in existence today.

Whoa.

That’s one blog for every 16 people.

On one hand, knowing that each time I release a post I am competing with half a billion other bloggers around the world for the eyes of the more than 7.8 billion readers is daunting.

On the other hand it’s freeing.

My goal with this blog is to share my thoughts. I don’t claim to always be an expert in whatever topic I write about – in fact the opposite is often true.

But I do believe that our country, and the world, is a better place when we value thinking, learning, conversing, debating, sharing, and growing both personally and together in community.

We live in a day when individuals from all walks of life and myriad worldviews can be “canceled” – socially silenced – for simply holding an opinion that someone else disagrees with.

While this blog may at times dig into the current worldview divides that we are currently living through in America and other parts of the globe, this blog is not going to be a lament ad nauseam on how our country, and the world, are “going to hell in a handbasket.”

There are literally thousands of blogs, websites, TV programs, YouTube channels, podcasts, and radio shows that have that covered.

God knows none of us need more red-faced doom and gloom rants.

In my humble opinion, today more than ever, we need truth, humble action, and conversations.

We need truth to cut through the noise of our distracting devices and the fake news that we allow to shape our perspective on the world.

When we recognize that truth, we need to humbly speak truth to power while not alienating those that disagree or being unwilling to reform our views as we learn and grow.

There are always going to be morals, values or views that each of us will likely not shift on. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be open to hearing other people out when they see things differently. We can always learn something from one another if both sides are willing.

In a nutshell, this is what this blog is about.

Whether I write about current events, books, history, building furniture, philosophy, or boxing, I hope that my thoughts challenge you to not only think, but also to listen.

Because if we honestly hear each other out, it might just surprise us how much we share in common.

Welcome to the blog and thanks for reading.
